The city of Greensburg, Kansas, was completely destroyed by a tornado. I went to help clean-up, and was amazed by the wide-spread destruction and devastation of the natural disaster. Being there in person is so much different than just seeing pictures. The atmosphere is surreal; military vehicles drive around and as far as you can see there are stripped trees and piles of debris. It is reminiscent of a war-zone. The stories of the citizens of Greesnburg are compelling as well. There is something to be told for every object recovered from the rubble. Their attitudes are admirable; they have hope for the future and were grateful for the volunteers. I was really moved by the whole experience. It gives me a new outlook on life and material possessions. Any chance that you get to help a fellow person in need should be taken. You may get as much out of it as the person you are helping.
